The contract will upgrade and increase capacity of the existing plant to treat secondary treated effluent which has highly variable suspended solids and flow rates. Actiflo® clarification, a patented Veolia technology with an 18-year operating experience and 550 plants around the world, is the ideal water treatment system for water and wastewater with highly variable flows and quality. The Actiflo® has the ability to adapt quickly to changing water quality whilst maintaining very high treated water standards. The Actiflo® unit will ensure a higher quality feed water to the continuous microfiltration system, especially in times of high wet weather flows and in the event of high algae loading.
The contract also involves Veolia Water Solutions & Technologies upgrading the existing continuous microfiltration unit to utilise a higher technology membrane that will allow higher throughput, reduce energy consumption, improve system recoveries and allow the water to be utilised in future re-use projects.
These upgrades forming part of a broad upgrade of the waste water treatment plant will provide high quality recycled water for a reuse water project, aiming to reduce demand on the River Murray in the drought affected region.
